Aligning for Growth: Salesforce's Pathway to Collaborative Leadership

Global Warriors partnered with Salesforce's EMEA Customer Service Group to address the challenges they faced in maintaining market leadership and customer service excellence, which were brought by rapid growth, increasing organisational complexity, and changing market demand across the region.

Company Overview

Salesforce is a global cloud-based software company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It provides customer relationship management service and sells a complementary suite of enterprise applications focused on customer service, marketing automation, analytics, and application development. With annual revenues of over $17bn and a workforce of 49,000, Salesforce was ranked in 2020 by Fortune magazine at number six on its 'List of Top 100 Companies to Work for.'

The Programme Solution

As customer demand evolved and new challenges emerged, sales leaders needed to adapt their perspectives and approaches, fostering greater alignment, collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovation across different functions and geographies. The "Conscious Teaming" programme sought to shift leaders' focus from individual to collective success, enabling them to leverage the power of the collective and operate beyond traditional silos, ultimately providing a richer, more cohesive and relevant sales and service offering to customers.

Conscious Teaming was a fully comprehensive programme experience. Each cohort journeyed through at least 20 weeks of self and team development, including a series of three-day residential workshops at different European locations, an equine-guided learning module, 1:1 personal coaching, guided peer coaching and support, as well as regular, virtual group coaching and focused skills sessions.

The Results

Participants and their leaders agreed that among the programme's most valuable and applicable aspects were the relationships formed within a diverse group of colleagues who inspired and supported one another through profound and challenging developmental experiences.

Participants also acquired many of Global Warriors’ ‘hallmark’ tools and practices, which they continued using with their teams, embedding new ideas, rituals, and habits into Salesforce's culture.

Post-programme evaluations revealed that overall programme satisfaction scores averaged 4.7 out of 5 across all cohorts.

Note: When Salesforce subsequently underwent a major restructuring programme, Conscious Teaming facilitators provided a psychologically safe space for leaders to work through personal feelings and reactions. It also brought colleagues together in support of one another while they created new, adaptive strategies to guide their respective teams.

Testimonial

“I've been privileged to be part of this journey for the last 12 to 18 months and have thoroughly enjoyed every part of it. I recently received the employee engagement results for my team and received the highest scores I believe I've ever had in my career with an average of 4.71. In particular, the areas our
team is rated highest are ... creating a positive healthy working environment where the team is able to be most effective.”
