Here’s what inspires us

At Global Warriors we are standing on the shoulders of giants. We are proud of what we do, but freely acknowledge that the concepts we work with are ancient and that there are others our there who have inspired us with their brilliance. Here are some resources that may be of interest to you.

Here are some of the books, talks and resources we find most relevant:

Dr Harriet Lerner is a renowned psychologist and wise soul and has been inspiring and igniting us with her publications for over 30 years. Her latest book, Why Won’t you Apologise unfolds the depths and power behind the two most important words in the English language: “I’m Sorry”.

As Amazon writes “readers will learn how to craft a meaningful apology and avoid signals of insincerity that only deepen suffering. She explains what drives both the non apologiser and the over apologiser and why people who do the worst things are the least able to own their misdeeds. With her trademark humour and wit, Lerner offers a joyful sanity saving guide to setting things right.

Biba’s Perspective: “This is not just a useful book for those of us with apologies to make or be made, the personal challenges, reflections and models are fantastic life and leadership development mindsets, skillsets and toolkits. It has us dig deep and challenge our fundamental human trait of needing for certainty playing out in our need to know and our need to be right. A great warriorship workout!”.

Brené Brown hosts the Unlocking Us podcast.

Nearly all of the Global Warriors team tune in regularly to her words and ‘Conversations that unlock the deeply human part of who we are, so that we can live, love, parent, and lead with more courage and heart.’ We find Brene real, raw, candid and wise. She’s also funny! New episodes two or three times a month. Well worth a listen.

I am loving this book – it is one I come back to time and time again. It reframes what meditation means – and for those of us that like to be moving when we meditate this talks to the art of integrating the body and mind on the move. The lessons in the book translate across to other sports, dance, yoga/martial arts – addressing the five stages of mastery of anybody art and the importance of the breath and breathing. A recommend for anyone who wants to deepen their movement practice.

David says “Because it takes our physical movement to a new depths of meaning and transformation. Bringing our awareness into the here and now – a stance on being in the present moment when moving”.

This is a recent edition to Simon Sinek’s contribution to field leadership and organisational development. In this book Simon guides the reader through straight forward processes for finding your own personal ‘why’ and the ‘why’ of your/a team. The second is a particularly empowering exercise as it gives voice to the ‘third entity’ of a team in a refreshing and straight forward way – that any team can facilitate.

David says “this book shows Warriorship in Action by guiding individuals and teams to step into the extraordinary world of living from values – living from the inside, rather than being shaped by the outside.”

Louise Hay at her best! Louise’s view of the world is that we affirm all the time – whether our thoughts are positive or negative – and that our thoughts create our reality. So why not make your thoughts affirming, positive, gently and kind? Have a listen. Wonderful to run along to, listen in the back ground.

David says “this book is about empowering yourself to create your own reality according to your wishes and desires.”

An inspiring memoir by the founder of Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard, and manual for an alternative and radical success of a business that is based on set of principles that have their tap root in the preservation of our planet, the fulfilment of human beings, living in harmony with the animals and nature who share our home. I listened to this whilst running, and found it so moving from time to time that I stopped to absorb the impact of the words that were being spoken – moving, inspiration and practical.

David says “this shows Warriorship in Action because of the stance that is taken – a deep sense of care for all beings and the environment of our planet.”

Organisations are often run according to “the superchicken model”, where the value is placed on star employees who outperform others. And yet, this isn’t what drives the most high-achieving teams.

Business leader Margaret Heffernan observes that it is social cohesion — built every coffee break, every time one team member asks another for help — that leads over time to great results. It’s a radical rethink of what drives us to do our best work, and what it means to be a leader. Because as Heffernan points out: “Companies don’t have ideas. Only people do.”

I love this 100 page ‘summary’ which artfully illustrates the key concepts of Laloux’s original book ‘Reinventing Organizations: A Guide to Creating Organizations Inspired by the Next Stage in Human Consciousness’ in a way that I have found easy to grasp and understand. If you found the orginal tough going, give this a go – it makes much sense.

David says “I love this book because it shows Warriorship in action by calling us forward to create organisations and cultures that truly care about people and the planet. Taking a fierce stand for us all.”
